Wilderness Survival Training
2 days - 1 night out in wilderness setting.
This course is offered for workers who travel to remote worksites and are exposed to the risk of being stranded in a wilderness setting. GMS will customize the course to focus on the environment and situations your workers are potentially exposed to.
Topics covered are how to initiate a rescue, and best ensure being located, wilderness hazard recognition, how to create shelter from the elements, ensure security from wildlife, firestarting, and winter survival skills. We look at both utilizing your survival kit, and what to do if you are without one.
Survival kits are created or reviewed depending on your current use.
The course has a classroom component, the majority of time is spend in the field, and a thorough analysis and debrief is held after the practical component.
GMS can assist with your policies and procedures for workers traveling to remote locations; such as Journey Management Systems, Response Plans for overdue workers, and survival kit requirements.
