Facilitated Access

ff

Industrial Facilitated Access is the assistance of moving resources, equipment, and infrastructure through potentially hazardous work sites completing the required activities.

Facilitated Access is GMS staff accompanying and “guiding” unskilled workers into challenging environments.

At GMS, facilitated access is used primarily as a risk management tool to allow a specialized worker to get to and from potentially hazardous work sites. Facilitated access is often used when working within difficult terrained areas such as any high angle, confined space, mountain and remote locations. Seismic surveying, tower construction, penstock inspection and tree falling in difficult terrain are but a few of the real world applications of where facilitated access is used.

Depending on your needs and requirements, different facilitated access approaches can be used. All GMS resources are experienced with mountain guiding, rope access, mountain safety training, and fall protection that can be utilized for access and safety in difficult areas. A typical job would involve either GMS rope access technicians using ropes and mountain guiding techniques to position a specialized worker safely into an area where they can perform their job or have the rope access technicians complete the job themselves depending on the terrain.

All GMS technicians hold certifications through a variety of professional mountain guiding and risk management organizations including that are utilized for Facilitated Access:

  • International Federation Mountain Guides Association (IFMGA)
  • American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA)
  • Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG)
  • Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT)

Facilitated access can be described as a means of getting to and from a hard to reach worksite in a safe manner using a number of available specialized skills and tools. The fortunate payoff from using proper facilitated access techniques is that it is cost effective and in most cases increases production. As many companies have discovered, using facilitated access to solve operational challenges is key to a successful project.
