Yosemite Decimal System (YDS)

The Yosemite Decimal System (YDS) is a three part system used to rank climbing or mountaineering routes on a relative scale. The three parts are the “Class” (1-6) the “Commitment Grade” (Ⅰ - Ⅶ) and the “protection rating” (G, PG, PG13, R, X). The YDS Class from Class 1 (Flat terrain, Easy walking.)  to Class 6 (Aid Climbing in Mostly Vertical terrain where a fall could cause serious injury or death.) is often modified for use on industrial projects taking place in challenging and mountainous terrain.
