Helicopter Long Line Rescue Training Programs

Commonly referred to as " HETS" or "CDFL" or Short haul rescue

Long Line Helicopter Rescue (HETS) is a helicopter based system of rescue consisting of 3 participating parties: The Air Carrier, The Pilot, The Rescue Operative. Highly specialized training, certification and practice is required to provide an integrated rescue service. This rescue system is subject to Transport Canada and WCB regulations, and provided by members of the Air Rescue Association of Canada (ARAC).

Building a HETS program requires that all participating agencies meet pre-qualifications, complete a training and certification process, participate in a joint Memorandum of Understanding, utilize approved equipment and personnel, and meet all regulatory practical and administrative requirements.

An effective rescue team is built when all members are proficient in their operations, and have trained together, building a working relationship, to realize the capabilities and limitations of their implementation of this tool. This requires a serious commitment of an agencies resources to achieve. GMS can advise on the suitability and options for your agency to evaluate and implement development of HETS where desired, if appropriate.

GMS can develop partial or complete helicopter rescue training and certification programs for all parties involved in, or integrate your existing structures into HETS program development.

For client projects GMS will commonly provide the Rescue Operatives, and integrate with the project air carrier, provding training and certification as required to the pilot and air carrier, as well as administrative support.

GMS owns and provides the required HETS equipment.
